Cadmium plating is a pale yellow, almost greenish cast. Lots of aluminum is cadmium plated to keep the aluminum from oxidizing. It will corrode-looks like frost or the white powder on a battery cable. I've seen a lot of grade 8 hardware that looks like it's either cadmium plated or chromate.
