(from 0.020 to 0.127 mm) thick on the surface of the metal. In contrast, thin dense chrome plating has a thickness from 0.0002 to 0.0006 inch (0.005 to 0.015 mm).

polishing industrial chrome? we use in our plastic extrusion plant big chromed rolls, about 14" in diameter, about 60" long, what we call chill rolls. these rolls are typically 420SS, with a chrome overlay which is 0.005 to 0.007 thick. we call it a mirror finish, I believe that technically it's a 0.5 Ra finish.
