As noted in another review, the design of this drum does flat out your work, which means you might just skip the jointer. This is not a highly crafted consumer-appearance machine, but it works very well. It's so simple, I'd think it has a pretty robust life. Do expect to make a plywood base for it because the motor doesn't hang on the machine.
