To add a VFD you'd have to rebuild the whole grinder around a new motor, by which time you'd have spent enough to buy a better grinder to begin with. 1. Posted. 617. Oct 13, 2008. #3. I've been using my Griz for 3 years with no major problems. Flat grind and Convex so the closeness from 10" wheel to motor is not a problem. I recommend a glass piece added to the platen and a additional brace to the upper wheel area. Put some filter material in the air holes at the right side of the motor to keep crap out.

2x72 belt grinder
Shop Fox and Grizzly grinders built on a buffer motor is not a great option. I don't like the motor being in the way of the contact wheel. It's OK for slack belt and platen grinding, but I doubt that a motor that small can't keep up with grinding pressure at 3600 RPM. It's a waste of money for the knife maker, IMO
